The relationship between baby brains and attachment theory training

Event/course summary The workshop will focus on the relationship between attachment and babies' brains and will cover:

- Overview of recent research studies looking at early bonding experiences and impact on brain development

- Overview of attachment styles and impact on relationships

- Case Discussion in small groups and application of theory to our work
Aims This workshop will:

- Provide participants with an in depth exploration/review of attachment theory

- Help participants to consider how attachment theory relates to their work

- Help practitioners to think about some of the children and families they are working with

- Give participants skills to identify children and toddlers at risk of developing mental health difficulties. 
Learning outcomes - skills and knowledge By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

- Describe attachment theory and relate it to infant and toddler development.
- Identify the connections between early experiences and children's behaviour and emotions
- Identify children's needs through observation of children and their relationships.

Intended impact on practice Following the workshop, practitioners will be able to identify emerging or developing mental health difficulties in children under 5 years and follow the signposting and referral processes to support families to achieve the best outcomes for their children.
Additional event/course information
Who is this event for? Those who have not yet attended this workshop or are new to working Early Years Services including Wandsworth PVI settings where Wandsworth children are placed. Staff from all Wandsworth sectors(health, education, early years and social care) are welcome.
